George D. Mundy, D.V.M.
Dr. Mundy received his degree in 1983 from
the Ontario Veterinary College, at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada.
After graduation, he practiced as associate resident veterinarian for both
Windfield's Farm in Canada and Nelson Bunker Hunt's Bluegrass Farm in Central
Kentucky.
In 1990 he joined the Kentucky Racing Commission and currently
holds the position of Chief Veterinarian. He is the Veterinary Consultant to
Breeders' Cup Limited, heading up the veterinary inspection panel that monitors
participating horses on Breeders' Cup Championship Day, and also the Kentucky
Derby and the Preakness Stakes.
As Chief Veterinarian, Dr. Mundy oversees
daily aspects of regulatory equine veterinary medicine at Kentucky racetracks
including pre-race inspections, race day medications, racing injuries and post
race drug testing. He is staff liaison for the Equine Drug Council, which funds
equine drug testing research in Kentucky and serves on both the Public
Relations and Regulatory Committees of the American Association of Equine
Practitioners.
Current projects include a study on threshold levels for
therapeutic medications at the University of Kentucky and a case control study
of racing injuries at Kentucky racetracks funded by the Texas Equine Research
Account with colleagues at Texas A&M.
